Best wood pellets at the moment?

Sorry, bit of a boring question but I haven't bought any for years. Trying to figure out which are the best pellets at a reasonable price - looking for mid-high quality / absorbancy, not necessarily the cheapest but obviously would like to find them at the best price. What are people using at the moment? Quick search has White Horse Energy unbranded pellets for £349 for 975kg but not sure on the quality compared with their premium pellets which are £425 for the same amount.
 
I’m not affiliated with them in any way at all, but I switched to Silva Bed last year and they’re brilliant - bit more expensive than the unbranded ones but I have to top up much less so a pallet lasts much longer. Nice white pellets that smell lovely too, and the delivery is included in the price they quote.
 
I have the white horse basic ones. The do the job just fine.
Not sure what more I would want them to do for extra money - they are so much more absorbent than any other bedding ever
 
The best wood pellets are by far Aquamax. They are a wood crumble and made for horse bedding rather than for burning as heating fuel so are designed to be really absorbent.

They are currently just under £500 for a pallet, as they have a 10% off offer on from Burghley and you will use far less of them than fuel wood pellets. I made the mistake of switching to fuel ones years ago till I work was out I was using 2/3 bags a week where as aquamax I only used 1. Bags are bigger now too so only use one every other week for my shetlands who are the only ones currently in. I'd expect to use one every 8-10 days for bigger ponies.

If you give them a call they are really helpful and can send you a tiny sample out to wet yourself and see how much they fluff up 😊

I agree about Aquamax being the best. i have been using it for years. Although they seem to have just put up their prices. I couldn't find the 10% discount. Any idea where I can find it?
 
Agree about aquamax, second best is Snowflake pellets. Difficult to compare prices as they go by volume not weight but they are bigger and go further than other bags I have tried. I pay £7.80 a bag locally but you could probably get a discount on a pallet.

They were giving out samples at Burghley with 10% offer, it wasn't for then and there only I think so if you call or email and ask about the Burghley offer they will tell you hopefully 😊

I tried a bag of the tittmus own ones they are a pound cheaper I've just used them so will see how they go.
 
I'm rather particular about my wood pellets. I like Flame Plus or Platinum Plus, unbranded were too dark and I couldn't bear the thought of being disappointed for a whole winter. But somebody else has bought unbranded and they're now a lot lighter again.

They weren't available last time there was a shortage, there was one in a clear bag but they were awful.

However I have to get bedding through the yard/farm, that's who I'm paying £7.80 for snowflake to. Still interested to know what they're like in case of more shortages.
 
We were looking at the wood pellets that Morrisons were selling in the summer as i wanted to stockpile. Think they were around £12 but only contained ten litres.

They went right down to £6 for clearance at the start of Sept but still not value for money. We've looked at cat litter too.

I tried wood pellets for cats and it worked the same, can't see why cat litter wouldn't work. It's highly absorbing but not sure how it would effect the layer above.

I bought some Platinum Plus from Pets st Home to see if they were the same-and they didnt break down when soaked. Horrible things

These were amazing but they need a good soaking prior to use so maybe that'swhere you went wrong?

Lari was incredibly clean when stabled, probably five poops and two wees a night in winter and we were putting down one soaked PP down with a good thick layer of shavings on top and then removing wet spots that had penetrated the shavings daily and a full muck out once a fortnight.

We found them very cost effective for a 17hh horse in a 14 x 12 stable.

Im not talking about the normal Platinum Plus, which are excellent. The Platinum Plus that I bought from Pets at Home didn't break down (I left them overnight to see what happened), and they were much darker than normal Platinum Plus. I like my beds very pale, so even if they had broken down -I'd have hated them!

Oh gross! I didn't realise they sold them in pet shops, thought they were equine use only.

I am finding the new bigger bags of Aquamax not a patch on the old stuff. My horse on rubber matting with the corner she uses most is needed up and in the morning I have to take the lot out, it is soaked. We have been using Aquamax for years but very disappointed now.

I haven't noticed any difference at all, beds are still the same as usual just the bags are harder to carry 🤣 Have you spoken to Paul or Ashley to feed back? I know when the bags were first made larger they were having discussions with the supplier of the pellets about how long etc they should be and welcome any thoughts, it could be that you had an earlier batch before they got it quite spot on?
 
Long time Aquamax user here. It was always the best but something has changed with the product and Silva Bed is much better - as good as the original Aquamax. It’s a shame as Aquamax always gave great service and I like to support this, but Silva Bed service is also excellent.
