They are lovely and pale coloured, highly absorbent and a good price. The only drawback is they are in 10 kg bags, but I can live with that.

The best way to work with them I have found is to put the bags down in the stable, cut a U shape hole and pour in hot water (about a quarter bucket). They fluff up really quickly and better even than 5 star and LWP IMO. :)
 
Thanks for that, I've been wondering whether to change to wood pellets for my mare who can't have a straw bed because if she eats it she has colic. Can you get them through the internet?
 
Im currently using shavings but not that keen as the ones im currently using dont soak much! Ive never used pellets - are they softer and more absorbent? If you provide a decent bed for half a 12x14 stable (with matting under all of the stable) how much would that use of the pellet bags? Sorry to ask such basic questions but ive only even used straw and shavings.

They are softer and MUCH more absorbent. To give you an idea, one very messy horse here is currently on a type of shavings (safe mix) because her owner provides the bedding. She was on wood pellets before hand which I provided. Whilst on wood pellets I took out on average 2 thirds of a barrow per day. Now she is on shavings I take out 2 heaped barrow loads. Her owner likes all the wet taking out daily which is why it is so much.

If you have rubber mats, you need around 8 sacks of wood pellets to make a decent bed. The bed will get bigger over the first few days so may not look that deep at first but they fluff up. After that, you would need to top up with 2 15kg or 3 10 kg bags a week if you like a nice pale coloured bed. Many people get away with a lot less, depending on how many hours their horse is in and how messy they are.
 
Interesting find, I had used the 5* ones last time, and they were good. BUT, they'd put the price up a lot when I came to reorder, and by quite a bit. I've just had a delivery off corley again (ive used them For a few years now) as they are OK pellets and quite a bit cheaper then the 5* ones. However these are a bit cheaper still, and if you say they are as good as the 5* ones I may try them next time - Keep us informed how you get on in the comment weeks please.
 
I bought a pallet of these a few days ago from White Horse Bedding @ £225 but I see the price has gone up slightly since. I'd been using Corley Bio pellets before that but they went up from £245 to £265 a pallet so I looked for a change. I found these 'Woodlets' pellets & they were £40 cheaper so decided to try them.

I put a couple of bags in a stable to top up today & they fluffed up quickly, quicker than the Corley Bio. For toping up I slit the bags right at the very top & then hose them until the water totally covers the pellets & goes right up to the top of the bag. After 15-20 minutes the water's absorbed & they're fluffed up & I put them on the bed. I've been pleased with them so far. Horses are expensive to keep so I was pleased to save £40 on the pallet against my usual pellets.

I used shavings for years & kept away from pellets, I couldn't get my head around wetting a bed to make it work? I now regret not changing years ago, it's cheaper, it's quicker to muck out & it keeps the size of the muck heap down, it's really good to use. :)
