My filly's just come back from living out at stud for the past 4 months and is looking ribby and wormy. I am keeping her stabled, at home, until she's wormed properly. What would be the best wormer compound for erradicaing everything she's likely to have - including tapeworm?

pramox or panacur guard (5 day course) these are I believe the only wormers that do all worms and stages.

Or if you don't want to overdo her in one go then you could give an equest now and follow with an equitape in a couple of weeks.

Many thanks. Have used a wormer with the same ingredients as Pramox this evening.

Did the Stud not implement a worming programme and advise you what/when they had wormed? very unusual for a Stud not to.

My filly liveried there at grass with lots of other babies for company, for 4 months as an emergency (and temporary) measure. I'd travel up every six weeks in person to worm her and to meet my own farrier who'd trim her feet. Otherwise, nothing would have been done I am positive. A friend's yearling arrived home with a dreadful tapeworm infestation. He was passing great chunks of worm in his dung. Never seen anything like it. Nor hope to again, in the future. Not impressive. IMO, too many horses and an inclination to want to save money.

I wanted to send off a dung sample and have it tested but from what I gather from the gumph in the kit, because I HAVE wormed her regularly the test may not be reliable. Apparently you need to leave off worming for quite a while, before taking a worm count sample; Is that right? For obvious reasons, there was no way I was going to leave my girl unwormed during her stay away.

i would worm count her to see what you are dealing with if she has not been wormed in a while! if you give something to strong it may cause her to colic the kindest wormer is panacur but does not kill a lot of worm and deffo not tape worms and you have to worm quite often as well!

I wormed her yesterday with a Pramox type product and have the vet coming out in 2 weeks to do her jabs. I'll get him to check her then. I last wormed her (at the stud) 5 weeks ago using Equimax, but without a mutual worming program being followed where she was staying, I am doubtful of the effectiveness. Now she's home I want her as clear as possible, before turning her out onto the clean pasture.
