Our new horse arrived yesterday, she has been in the UK for 3 weeks, and has not been wormed yet. She has no signs of worm problems ect.

I was thinking of using Equest Pramox??

hiya i havent used Pramox yet but heard good things about it tho some people were saying that it says on the leaflet to keep them in for 3 days after dosing!!, Equimax does tapeworm and other stuff in a single dose to and it treats horses up to 700Kg i would also get a worm count done to be on the safe side,i take it your vet has had a look at her seeing as she has just come into the country - where is she from anyway?

I was told by my vet that a horse with unknown worming history should be done first of all with Equest, as Pramox is strong enough to kill encisted redworm, and a large burden can cause colic in some cases.

I wish the Pramox done up to 700kg.One syringe only does upto 575kg body weight which is a pain in the butt if you have some thing that weighs 650kg.I had to get two syringes and use a little bit of it!.

personally i would worm anything with an unknown history with panacur 5 day guard, this will work gently over the 5 days rather than risking killing everything in one hit and running the risk of a blockage if the horse does turn out to be harbouring a large burden, this can be the case even if a horse is not showing clinical signs, for instance dormant encysted small redworm (cyathastomes) don't cause any symptoms until they emerge en-masse from the gut wall, that is when the damage is done.
after the 5 dayguard give it a week and then follow up with an equest pramox, this will deal with any survivors of the guard as well as tapeworm.

Equest kills encysted small redworm, as does pramox, the only difference being pramox kills tapeworm as well, due to the inclusion of praziquantel, equest does not kill tapeworm.
