Currently ridden in a hanging cheek with copper lozenge and grackle for hacking. He's controllable in this combination i.e can pull up when cantering in company, but hard to keep stood if another horse goes off in front or on our way home etc.

Off on a hack with the hounds next week and wanting to put him in a bit stronger bit, as I haven't taken him on anything like this before so unsure how he will react. He tends to tuck his head right in to his chest when trying to tank off so unsure of what to try!

As I a can control him in his snaffle just a little bit more brakes would be ideal, so next 'step up' from a snaffle if you like. Been suggested a bevel bit for this? So can have the reins in the slots for a bit of poll pressure, but not sure this will help with his head tucking in trick!

Any suggestions would be great! If hes not to excited and wild will probably try him in his current bit next time but just dont want to go unprepared!

Thanks!
