Important warning for all advertisers from Head of Classified sales Steve Mitchell

We have recently been made aware of several cases where advertisers have been called and asked for payment / card details due to a transaction not going through or a systems crash which has led to card details being lost. Unfortunately these are scams which are becoming more commonplace and the people that are carrying them out are highly convincing professionals who are very astute at getting you to part with your card details.

Horse & Hound may call advertisers for payment details, however if you have an advert running with us we will always tell you at the time of payment if there has been a problem with the transaction. If you do not recognise the person calling or are at all unsure about the legitimacy of the call then please do not give your card details just call the Horse & Hound classified team on Freephone 0800 316 5450 to ensure that you are speaking to a genuine member of staff.

Please do let us know if you have had any calls over this weekend - H&H do not take payment details over the weekend.

Thanks Steve

A BIG bug bear about IPC Media is that they ALWAYS call you with PRIVATE NUMBER!!!!!!

Drives me nuts!!!! I stopped giving out my details a LONG time ago! I always say stick it in the post! If they are legit and persistent they will send

Please IPC Media change this straight away!!!! Then we KNOW its you guys calling us!

Sadly these bogus callers are a regular occurrence and as Supersteve says do not part with your card details if you are not generating the call

Beware of the ones wanting to renew your Sky Protection--they drove me nuts and eventually gave up when I said let it lapse then--needless to say it has not lapsed because they were scammers but so official sounding!!

Dear Foraday
Thank you for your reply, unfortunately we are unable to change the private number function, however in light of these bogus calls I have asked our systems dept if there is a solution that could be tested by H&H. However if you are ever unsure if you dial 1471 it will tell you that you have been called by IPC Media. If i do manage to get a change through I will let you know via the forum and a message in the magazine.
Steve
