BEWARE! Metal thieves stealing drain covers

Just a warning to those of you who hack or even cycle. I was out on a 70 miler on my bike on Friday, cruising down a downhill section in Bedfordshire (near Great Barford) at 25mph in a world of my own, when I glanced ahead to see that some thieving bar-stewards have stolen the metal grates over the drains at the side of the road. Had I notice a second later I would undoubtedly have buried my front wheel in the whole and flipped myself. I can only imagine the damage if a spooked horse put a foot down one.

So keep an eye out, I'd hate for anyone to get hurt out hacking. there is a huge amount of metal theft going on at the moment and there must have been 4 or 5 missing on a short stretch of country road.

and all they'll do is send someone round to fix them down with cable ties

It happens round by us a lot, overnight entire roads & lanes loose their drain covers, and the P**** so & so's that nick them also then sell them to the scrap men!

I'd be happy if they even marked them with a cone to show they were missing...I nearly killed myself! Our village sign has been nicked twice in last year, we now have a teeny tiny one!
