We decided to go on mounted hound excercise this morning.
We were merrily trotting down a lane when the hounds knocked over a wasp nest in a bank...all hell broke loose with the horses swarmed with wasps. Three of the horses, including mine, lost it and were bucking and spinning to try and rid themselves of the horrible things - my poor lad had them on his face and in his ears and was beside himself. One poor lady got bucked off and landed head first onto the road, and although managed to remount, had to go to hospital later.
I have been stung on my back and my bottom (!) and my poor lad has stings all over. We were very lucky that nothing worse happened, but have to admit I was very scared at the time.
Just be careful out there...
