Hi there,

As above. I was wondering if anybody has done any of the BHS rides. I was interested in perhaps doing one , but I am not sure if I would be fit enough to do it successfully. I ride my boy for an average of 2 hours plus , three times a week, hacking out on the moors. The ride I was interested in is in Mongolia and if I did decide to do it I would have to commit to it almost immediately.
Thank you for reading!

I did Iceland in 2008, was good although it rained everyday! Definitely worth doing, lots of good fun and meet some great people.

I would look into it straight away as you have to raise a lot of money and there are other expenses, think I needed to raise £2k, then another £500 on other bits and bobs and some kit etc.

But it all goes to a good cause so go for it :)

I did Inner Mongolia and Iceland, both great.

:D

Make sure you are fit though!

How much training did you do, and what type? Did you do 6 hour training rides? Any other tips you could give to help me know if I will be fit enough!!

Thanks!

On the Iceland one, even with lots of breaks, the tolting REALLY takes it out of you...really, you should be able to stand about 6 hours a day sitting trot to cope with it!

Haha!

The Mongolia one was a little easier, with various gaits, but it was hot. Not humid though, which made it easier...

Yeah, I tried to ride lots, did lots of walking etc etc etc...but I still felt it wasn't enough....!

The end of the IM one was awesome, as we had a day in Beijing, and visted the wall, summer palace, forbidden city etc etc....WELL worth the trip!

Oh what to do? Am I going to be able to face the challenge or am I simply not fit enough?

Help!!!!!

I'm just back from Hungary, riding 6 hours ish a day at breakneck speed  and I was fit enough (riding only 1 hour a week at the moment) I cycle everywhere so think that helped. The first couple of days my body wondered what we were up to but then got into the swing of things.

It is a challenge rather than a holiday so you would expect to be stretched. The sense of achievement having completed the ride would be fantastic.

I seem to remember Mongolia is a slowish ride (sometimes more tiring) and I would check whether you are expected to pitch your own tent at the end of the day. If you are knackered the last thing you want to do is wrestle a tent to the ground :)

Do it!

Thank you RebelRebel! I really appreciate your positive spin on this , I am not getting any support from OH who only comments that it looks very dangerous! So I will have to do it without his help!
