Morning all,

Has anyone taken part in one of these challenges? Am thinking of signing up for the Mongolian or Icelandic ride next year; would be really grateful if any of you could share your experiences with me across all aspects (or if anyone would like to team up with me let me know!).

Thanks!

Pm lastphoenix on here. She did the india chalenge last year and is the person on the front cover of the bhs challenge booklets you get in your signup packs. From the sounds of it, it was amazing. but she can tell you that herself :-)

I've not done a BHS one but I did a trek across the Andes for the Princes Trust. It's definitely the best thing I have ever done! Go for it! If it wasn't so much money with sponsorship etc I wouldn't hesitate to go again. Mine was all well organised, good guides and brilliant horses and the scenery was out of this world.

The only thing I would say is it annoys me when people ask for sponsorship and then use that money to cover the cost of flights and the experience. They are essentially asking for other people to pay for them to go on holiday (as the rides are a wonderful experience but not really a challenge in the way that say, the London Marathon, is a challenge. So I paid the flights and other costs out of my own savings so that all the sponsorship went to the charity.

Thanks guys - v helpful.

RE. Paying for your holiday - I totally get what you mean; but I guess charities have to speculate to accumulate.
Having said that, I would try and aim to pay for flights out of my own pocket; I wonder if they would let you do that - I suppose it's just the same as working harder to raise even more sponsorship to cover this. Worth a ponder :)
