Hi, Can anyone tell me if there is a limit to how many times you can retake your stages? At present only 1 fail on a stage 2 riding but would like to know if i can only take it another 3 times or whether you can just keep on taking it! money permitting ofcourse!!
Any help appreciated ....thanks :)

when sitting my stage 4 in april one girl was doing the care for the 4th time!!!
but i think if you keep failing the riding you have to go back a level.

I wouldn't have thought there would be a limit as clearly you have to pay for your retakes. The question to me would be if I needed another 3 times. If the answer is yes, I would be seriously questioning my ability.
This is coming from someone who took their stage 2 yesterday!! I would rather pass with bells on than scrape through at the 4th attempt.
Sorry :(

I totally agree that you want to be of a higher standard than the stage you are taking not only to pass but to avoid the cost of retakes.
But if you do not get a full explanation just a X against a section then it is hard to know what you are failing on and therefore difficult to improve. I just wondered whether they gave you so many chances as so many people at my college have failed and some the tutors have thought were of a very high standard.

Farleigh, I know of a few people who have gone for their 4 riding and keep failing and their instructors have said they're more than capable of the standard. There don't appear to be any restrictions on the amount of times you take it as I know someone trying for 5th time to get their 4 and they haven't been warned or anything.

No, there are no restrictions. You can retake it as many times as you like.

I didn't get my Stage 3 riding the 1st time. My instructors didnt understand and said I should have flown it. So I went elsewhere for a 2nd opinion. They altered my position entirely I passed with flying colours the next time.

If you've no idea why you've failed, get a 2nd opinion (unless you know you had a total disaster ride)

I agree with you there. You pay enough to get proper feed back at least. What were your crosses for? I was told a lot of people fail on the lungeing for the care section and a lack of impulsion in the riding section. Can you narrow it down to flat or jumping?

Don't think there is a limit. I managed to do up to stage 3 in college, but not 4 due to my age then.

I do remember screwing up one question possibly in stage 2 in the care XD I got asked how I would personally clean a rug. My answer was along the lines of 'I'd, personally, send it off to get it cleaned'.

Don't know if that was the required answer or not but it just slipped out!

As someone who (a) teaches at a college and (b) trains people privately to take BHS exams, I would not necessarily believe the opinion of a college instructor who says a candidate should pass :o

There is no limit to the number of times you can take the exam, but to give yourself the best possible chance, book an assessment lesson with someone who knows the exam system, knows what the examiners are looking for, and can tweak you in the necessary ways to ensure that you have the best possible chance of passing it the next time.

What did you get your X for? :)
