Has anyone here ever claimed or know someone who has claimed on the BHS insurance - did they payout OK?. I need to reinsure my horse and as she is worthless I'm only interested in 3rd party liability.

Also does anyone know their excess as I can't see it anywhere.

Thanks

I'm not sure if this will be any help, but apparently NFU will provide 3rd party horse cover as part of their home insurance cover (another livery told me, when they hastily looked for 3rd party insurance after their 30year old mare escaped from the field and nearly got out on a main road).

NFU's number is 0800 072 0168 - Had it handy as have just renewed my horse insurance.

Thanks, I've just done my home insurance though and NFU won't insure her as she has had an operation - I phoned them already.

How bizarre, they only phoned for 3rd party horse insurance, and were told it could be included on their home insurance. Think they paid £20 which was then refunded when they renewed their home insurance with NFU..............I only know as they were soooooo delighted they told EVERYONE!!!!!

Hi
From memory I don't think there is an excess on this policy (but you have to be a gold or life member or higher). Yes, a few years ago a friends horse (who was a BHS member) was bing ridden by another friend when it reared up at a hunt meet & sat on someone's landrover (Horse & Rider - 1: Land Rover - 0 !!). The BHS dealt with the claim and we never heard anymore. I am a member principally for this cover and it gives a whopping £10 million cover and if you have more than one horse it usually works out cheaper than adding to your horse's policies (if you have them insured) AND you get personal accident cover AND you get to help the BHS so I think it's a "win win" situation.
