BHS road safety reporting app

It’s a good idea and apparently has practical value because Police Scotland will run a clever little operation in hotspot areas.

But….. it’s a ballache to use. Takes a lot of scrolling and requires you to input a lot of data. It means it’s impractical/not safe to use during your hack, and if you’re like me and your yard has a lousy mobile signal, it’s a pain to use upon your return. And the chances of remembering when you get home hours later….zero. At least for me.

Each entry takes a lot of time, so if you got passed by half a dozen cars behaving like idiots, you’ll be filling it out forever.

In my mind, a much simpler app would give more comprehensive data because more people would use it.

Don’t know if this is just me and OH who find it frustrating or if others who’ve tried using it share this experience.

I always ride out with a Hat/Cam that films front/rear at the same time. If I have any incidents I then report and download them to the local Police Force and also make a report on the Horsei App, which i find O.K. to use.

I've found the same. I reported 2 incidents and it took half an hour! It's a shame though, because I wonder how many people (understandably) give up halfway through, and then that's less data the BHS can use when lobbying for safer roads for horses. I agree that a quicker, simpler version would be much more approachable and likely gather more data.

What do you consider an incident worthy of reporting?

I get a few tw@ts passing too close and fast every single time I go out. Which can be 5-7 days per week. If I was to download and isolate relevent camera footage (I have done this for other things....I know how faffy it is!) and go through the police reporting for every single car that drove like a c--, it would be a full time job. If all the BHS wants is data, so they can identify problem areas, then a very simple app that asks for date, location, and then has a quick drop down menu for type of incident would do the job. If people feel more detail is necessary, then that can be an option but not a requirement.
