Hi, has anyone recently done the BHS stage 1 care and ride? I only get to ride once a week (pre covid) but i'm confident on the riding side its the care i think i may struggle with as i don't have my own horse. Am trying to study but have trouble remembering, i'm 40 now and sure studying is so much harder now. Just wondering really what to expect? How much in depth do your explanations need to be ect. Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you in advance.

It's a while since I did any training for BHS stages exams - but have you bought the BHS Stage 1 Preparation books? Worth doing. And also, once Covid19 lockdown is over, you could book for Stage 1 stable management lessons at your riding school.

Hi , welcome. Stage 1 is all about being safe with your horse and your horse being safe with you. Understand that horsemanship is a journey . I started that journey some 55 years ago and I am still learning everyday. You are not training for an exam ,you are training for your life with horses. Pass or fail an exam , it doesnt matter. Its the acquisition(blimey ,thank you spell check ,theres a c in there, who knew!)of experience and knowledge. Enjoy the journey . Its a fantastic trip.

Thank you, i have always ridden but just riding doesn't give me anywhere near enough knowledge. Ihave left it very late to be able to work in this environment, hopefully not too late though (ha spell check is a Godsend) take care x

Chill, you can pass a stage one test by just not doing anything that migt harm your horse or your self. things like opening a stable door flat against the wall . Head collars ant tyeing up and when to untie. How to pick up feet . They wont want rocket science . I teach up to stage 4 and scare a lot of folks above that level and I dont have a single exam to my name.
