EEEEK it draws closer (next wednesday) who has done their stage one? What was it like? Any tips greatly appreciated, i am sat here reading Stage One Riding and Stable Management buffing up! However, may not be able to ride due to my back, have doctor's today so will let you know!

The BHS stage one is bery simple, in the riding make sure you have the horse very forward and in front of your leg as they will mark you down if the horse is not listening to you. in the SM make sure you speak very clear and if you are not sure what is bein asked of you just ask, the examiners don mind being asked to say somthing twice if it helps you. make sure tht everything you do is safe because the BHS are s h i t hot on safety and will fail you if you dont work in a safe way.

hope this helps

I;ve done mine, the lead up to it is much more scary than the actual thing! I found it really straightfoward, just act normally and they will notice that you know what your doing. Its common sense really.
Just dont undo the kick bolt with your hand, which is what someone did at my stage 1! Needless to say, they failed!!

I did mine years ago and it was pretty easy. Yes, saftey is a big thing so as long as you do everything 'by the book' (ie BHS stylee) you will be fine. Don't be afraid to speak up in group discussion (theory) when you are confident about stuff then hopefully examiner will be sick of hearing from you when you are not so sure and ask someone else!

Good luck - buff up on everything but go back over the stuff you know you are weaker on (sod's law says that they'll ask you those bits!)

i did mine, was far easier than i expected, just remain safety conscience which in fairness you should do at the yard anyways. u will be fine dont worry

I have dome my 1,2,3,4 and BHSI Stable Managers and have found that they are all a lot easier than expected( as long as you have learnt your stuff!) agree with the others, make sure you really are hot on your safety and also make sure you know the aims of the BHS- they always ask you that in your stage 1!

DON'T do what I did - go out and get disgustingly drunk the night before, and be utterly unable to string a sentence together the next day! I passed the riding, but failed the stable management on "not grooming the horse vigourously enough" (he was already gleaming and I was feeling queasy) and "unsafe removal of rug" (i stupidly walked behind his bum - apparently they don't like that!)
As you sound like much less of an idiot than me at age 18 you'll be absolutely fine. Good luck!

Echo everyone else - make sure eveything is done with safety in mind. When I took stage 1 the examiner asked us at the end of the stable management section if there was anything we'd do differently if we could turn the clock back. Good luck!
