hi,

i'm facing a bit of a dilema here so asking for your advice. i know this should probably be in careers room but i think i wil get more of a response here.

i am currently doing a National Diploma in Horse Management and have to board at the college and im finding that the course is off track a bit and it isnt all based on horses and i am finding the loads and loads of assignments i get given very hard and they envolve a lot of other studies i'm not really interested in. i think its more for students wishing to move on to Higher Education which is not what i want to do. so what i could do instead is my BHS stages which is more focased on horses and more practical rather than all the written work.

so do you think the BHS qualifications are just as good as the NDHM qualification??

do you think i should swap courses or stay ?

but, i want to have good qualifications at the end of the day.

what shall i do???

I would say that the BHS stages are better than the dipolma IMHO.

Having worked on a yard for 3years where staff were coming to get their hours or further their stages, don't think we ever had one with a dipolma.

yes i am doing my stages with the NDHM, but i dont think i wil get any further than my stage 2 whilst im doing the course as i have so much assignments to do!! if i jus do the stages i would be able to get up to my stage 3 or 4!

As someone who works in a College, I would suggest that you talk to your tutors. Also, make sure that you think ahead, and how either the BHS stages or the ND will help you in the future. I am not sure how far through your diploma you are or how old you are, but it is worth remembering that once you are over 18, further education is no longer free, so if you wanted to go back and finish the diploma at a later date, you would have to pay. Also, although you may not want to do so at the moment, an ND is entry into higher education as it has UCAS points equivalent to 3 A levels and you may wish to take this up in the future.

Just a few things to think about - take your time, and don't make any quick decisions, talk to as many people as possible.

Good luck in whatever you decide to do!
