New clippers arrived from ebay monday, used, older, but in working order, clipped mare monday night, fab, very pleased with bargain purchase. Good old ebay!!
Clipped new fat boy tuesday. I was hoping the removal of all that fluff would make him look slimmer, get rid of the scabby coat and stop him being quite such a sweaty unhappy mess when we ride.
Clearly not been clipped before, terrified but very brave. Didn't like his legs being done so I left them on and just trimmed his feathers. I did, however, hog him. He's very wide, I love the look of my lightweight cob (mini warmblood if you please!!) hogged and I am very in to them matching where possible!
He looks LUSH with his hog, strangely it makes his massive neck and head look smaller???
Anyway, rode this morning and something very bizarre happened. I may need to change his name from Sonic to Sampson. Shaving off his locks has clearly sapped all his power! He worked calmly, relaxed, long and low at times, on a loose rein walked when asked, moved up into trot without launching forward and cantered without removing my arms from their sockets. We came nowhere near warp speed at all. Normally he rushes and naffs off when confused, he is easily confused!
All in all the best session I have had with him in the 2 months we've been together. I am used to horses getting more fresh after a clip but not turning from a psyched up loon into a nice calm pony!! Anyone else had a calmed reaction to a clip???
