Hi.
Does anyone know about Bichon Frises? My mum is thinking about getting one but I don't know much about them.
She has a toy x miniature poodle at the moment and seem to be of a similar temperament.
Any info would be greatly appreciated but specifically I have ready that they do bark quite a lot? can be hard to house train? and are prone to cushings disease?

I have never personally but know family who have - definitely worth a good research , they can be very barky and needy if left alone too much. She had a skin condition around her eyes/ears and was told its a common thing with the breed, and require good brushing/grooming to prevent knots. She used to wee a lot in random spots too. Other than that she was cute x

I have had a few, they are excellent and stand up to the Great Danes and dobermans well! They need a lot of grooming but I just used to clip mine close so they looked like terriers and not clouds. The only reason I won’t have another is the ENDLESS skin problems.

Cracking dogs. Ours isn’t overly ‘barky’. She’s fun, clever, cuddly and delightful. She’s great with other dogs and loves everyone. We had no issues with house training.

I dog walk for a living so mine is used to walking several miles a day. The only real issue we’ve had is that she’s been a bit of a paw chewer in the past. We seem to have cracked that though.

I highly recommend them for someone wanting a small breed dog.

My mum had a rescue Bichon Frise - she was very cute, friendly, not particularly barky and was always up for a good walk. Downside was that she couldn't always hold her bowels and bladder overnight, so there would sometimes be a little pressie on the kitchen floor in the morning!

Do you mind me asking what sort of skin conditions?

Do they need a lot of exercise each day? as mum is 76 and not up for hours of off roading ?. But she currently takes her poodle out every day for about 30 minutes.

I think that they’ll do what you want them to do. My own dog is out for about three hours a day, but I suspect she’s the exception to the rule for many of them.
