Went I went up to my gelding this evening I noticed a large lump on his neck right by his head, it had teeth marks either side and hair was missing but no broken skin or blood. Seemed tender to touch. Is there anything I can put on it that will help? I really want to show him this year and everyday I find a new mark on him from where he play fights with the other boys!!

Those kind of bites are usually fine, I'd only worry and think about keeping an eye on it if the skin is broken in case it gets infected. Mine gets a lot of those where larger horses have taken a chunk out of him and he's left bald and a bit pink underneath. They are a bit warm and sensitive for a day or two but the skin hardens up quite quickly and the hair will grow back. The only thing I'd say is if we're due a lot of sun it might be worth putting some sun cream on it so it doesn't burn. Aloe vera gel is good for most skin conditions as quite cool and soothing too if it's sore. The last one of these my pony had was several inches square but I was amazed how quickly it went back to normal. I think of it feeling like us if we wax our legs when horses do this to each other - sharp ouchee!
