Well the 17hh lad passed his vetting with flying colours and arrived on saturday. Z makes our other boy (16.1hh) look like My Little Pony ! Thanks SO MUCH for the 50+ bits of advice you left when I asked for tips on owning biggies. It really calmed me down and stopped me stressing out. He's a gentle boy to handle and even seems to be pooing less than the other chap (God knows where C puts it all). Z is in the next stable to C and so far C has had a good squeal at Z and tried to kick the cr@p out of the partition, but with no reaction from Z I'm hoping he'll soon give it up as a lost cause

Now all we have to do is find Z a saddle and bridle (he came naked without even a headcollar to call his own, poor boy). Any tips on saddles for the larger lad welcome !

He might not necessarily need a particularly 'big' saddle, depends how short coupled he is and how wide etc. I have looked at a couple of extra full bridles, but at the minute I are managing with my Stubben Full Size one till finances will allow a nice new one, it fits him ok, its just a bit fine for such a sizeable horse, I would prefer something chunkier. Stubben, Sabre and Albion all do lovely extra full bridles though.

So come on then - some piccies of your new lad please

My big lad has really settled in well, each day he shows me a bit more of his character, very babyish and quite cheeky but so loving. Wish I could say the same as you about the pooing though!! Still producing barrowfulls!!

Welcome to the world of big horses

The two in my signature are 17hh and 17.3hh. The smaller one is in a large Extra Full bridle, but I have to have the other's ones bridles made for him. I find Fal rugs in 7ft 3in fit him a treat. Can't wait to see the piccies of your big chap.

I used to have a 17.3hh TBxID and he was fine in just a normal full bridle and a 17.5'' medium saddle. It depends on the build of the horse really - he did wear 7ft rugs though

Look forward to seeing pics

I find masta rugs are the only ones to fit my big lads and my "baby" is already in extra full bridles and extra wide saddles.!
My saddler would only sell me a synthetic one at the moment as he's a baby and still growing(!!) so couldn't give an advice on named saddles.
Have fun with him and can't wait to see piccies!
