Big boy in Horspital- HHO vibes please

Z had the cardio tests yesterday after Atrial Fibrillation had be diagnosed by vets. He was quite good to stand nicely in a strange looking half stable half vets office in the pitch black to have the ultra sound done- I was very proud of him.

Because the heart isn't enlarged they don't think he's had it for long and are relatively confident that the treatment will work in his case.

I almost turned around on the way down and cancelled as I knew the treatment is pretty hardcore (toxins tubing in to his stomach every 2 hours and can have huge side effects), and hate the thought of him going through it, but vet says they have a 85% success rate when taking on the right cases so I've decided to give him the chance.

Now its just a waiting game .... been sick twice this morning just thinking about it!

I have an Arab gelding in my yard (an Advanced Endurance horse) that developed AF while on a ride. When we got home he was referred to Liphook Equine Hospital. ECG ,bloods and a urine simple where taken. It was discovered he was low in Magnesium and Sodium. We now give him both as a supplement. We have not had a problem since and he as gone on to compete successfully.

This year while competing at the Golden Horse Shoe my little Arab mare developed AF. Hers was due to an electrolyte imbalance ,again once corrected she was fine. She again continues to compete including winning an Endurance Race. She is entered for this years Arab Marathon.

AF is easly treated. I would get bloods done.

Good luck , horses do come through these issues ours is hunting tomorrow keep hopefull everyone told me the chance of ours coming right was tiny but he did .

Thank you- it's in his resting heart beat too- but thank you for the positive story. The vet treating says he deals with more of these than other vet in the UK- so I know he's in the right hands.

Great for you.... and me too. I only have space , time and inclination for 1 horse that I can do EVERYTHING with so I really hope so!

They said they'd call to say he slept well etc, and then the vet would call later- but I've heard nothing. Trying to resist the urge to call them...

If its this bad with a horse PLEASE GOD never let my kids get sick!!!

They called and he's back to normal sinus rhtym after just 2 drenches!!!

Think he hasn't had it long at all as it was so easy to treat and no reason why he can't go back to full work. Vet really please but not as thrilled as me!!!

Didn't realise how much its was weighing on me until he called! The relief is huge!
