It's what happens when tack isn't regularly cleaned and oiled!

Personally I wouldn't risk it - a new pair isn't that expensive when weighed again your, or your horse's, life!

i know.... i only found them a while ago came with her old bridle.. was cleaning it and was it err.. do i or dont i?
i have two more pairs at the yard but there matural ones, which i cant stand but just this once i guess

don't risk it... just borrow a pair if you have to Wouldn't be any fun if you got eliminated because your rein snapped and you had no control!

I get that in old tack when its been not used for a long time, goes all dry and cracks.

They have totally had it - Chuck them out. The shiny/smooth side is the strong side - when that cracks the leather is no longer sound and can break easily under strain.

agree with others. Bin im afraid!

Imagine jumping in a jump off, seconds away from a red rosette - and snap!

I recently Jump Judged for a local Hunter Trials - the kiddies section was fun, one little chap came flying around. missed the jump, hauled left to line up again and SNAP! - He was fine the cute little pony just stood there.

He cried because obviously he was going no further - all that effort!!!

(he found another pair and the lovely secretary let him around again!) = Even did a little wave to me on the way past!!!
