okay this is going to be long

I've kept my pony at a dealers yard for the past year and a half.
I'm the only young person (17) at the yard and the rest of the older men have trotting horses, I'm the only one with a riding horse.
I ride in a field and my pony lives in the same field.
The field is less than an acre.
The problem is a young girl (12) lives down the road and I recently heard she wants a pony, I know her to see and have seen her ride on occasion. She's only a beginner and seems even a bit afraid of the ponies she rides.
The other day the YO comes over to me and says what would I think if she kept her pony up there with me in MY FIELD ! which I pay a small fortune for every month. I am not the kind of person that likes sharing the yard with someone else I've got used to a routine and my horse is used to it.This young one would want me to be helping her cause none of her family know anything about horses. The YO is only doing this cause he knows he'll get more money and there really isn't much more for 2 horses anyway in the field.
He's going to have to choose between me or her cause I'm not staying up there with her. Am I being over dramatic ????

:(

I wouldnt be happy with that. Specially if you only have an acre. Id speak to the YO and explain your concerns. I hope you work it out x

If your grazing and riding there then there isn't really enough for two, what if your horses don't get one then you will only have half an acre to ride and grazing all year round.

I too would say sorry but no :D, nothing personal but explain the lack of ground/grass. Have you anything else as a possible to go ?

No, not at all. Sounds a bit grim there, tbh. Find another yard, if at all possible and have more fun and support/companionship. Be charming to YO etc etc. less aggravation if you let him think that you have enjoyed and learnt from your time on his yard, and are looking to build on that and move on to a competion yard, or whatever . . .! Good luck, and let us know how the story unfolds.

I think I have an alternative but it's a bit more expensive than what I usually pay:( Just so annoyed that YO would think about doing something like that to me. :( He obviously likes the money more than he likes me:( Really thought he was my friend:(:(

No friends in business... talk to them and just say no or ask if the cost of the field will be discounted (half) to reflect the fact that your sharing. That way there is no extra money to be gained.

Why should you assume you'll have to help out with her pony... shocking though it sounds we all have our own minds and if you don't want to then the simple answer is... don't. He may well have thought you might like the company and someone more your age than that of the other people there and someone to ride out with.

Why do you only ride in the field?? Does the area lack hacking?? If it does then maybe a move might be a better thing for all concern? My ponies were always bored silly if they never got to see more than their field and have to say I would have been too, but definitely each to their own.

this. ^^

just say no if there's something you dont want to do.
if YO insists then you'd have a case for reducing your livery bill to half to account for having to share the field and if you make it known to him you'll be looking around to move if he insists he may back off s he wouldn't be any better off anyway.

this 12yr old girl you say hasnt got a pony anyway yet just that she 'wants one'.
