if your horse is over the average size 5 in shoes, what type do you have ?

I had an instructor out about H and falling onto his knees. She gave me some homework which is working, but has advised he would highly benefit from natural balance shoes. I have spoken to my farrier and he can not get them in his size, he is a 6 ??!!! He is built on his forehand.

I really do not want to go the cytex route as have tried them and they did not work for us.

He is down thursday this week and he is going to have a look and see what he can do

but what do you have ??

Damn, thought you meant hubby for a moment!!

Our biggest horse has size 8 (I think) I know their 8 inches wide and 7 inches long (I know its weird i know that but I tell visitors frequently as its a national trust property!) plain stamp shoes that the farrier mostly buys in but somtimes makes. Gota say they seem to trip less when he makes them.... if you can't get an alternative shoeing maybe try a new farrier? slightly different technique would help?

Mine is shod in Fitzwygrams which are very similar to NB but come in larger sizes & are steel not aluminium (apparantly aluminium shoes can distort if large & subject to a lot of pressure from a heavy horse). They have the same advantage of keeping the toe back, improving the breakover point & make it easier to control his tendancy to flare. Failing that even a "normal" shoe with no front toe clip should allow your farrier to get the toe back & alter the breakover if he's meticulous about the trim - it really is the trim that's more important than the shoe.

By the way my lad is a size 6 in Fitzwygrams but has been a size 7 in normal shoes.

I had that problem with my mares dinner plates

Then to make matters even more costly (don't know about you, but I found even standard shoes expensive in her size), we needed to go down the remedial shoeing route when she developed a sidebone

My vet and farrier were working together on that, when the farrier suggested we try her barefoot (since that was what they were trying to mimic, as is natural balance) because she had such good feet. That was nearly two years ago and we've never looked back

Ella has size 8 which are the largest "off the shelf". They are lightweight wide heavy horse shoes (she is Clydesdale x). As she has arthritis in her coffin joint and needs heel support, my farrier puts quarter clips on her front feet and shapes the shoes like natural balance ones. I have only heard negative things about cytex shoes I'm afraid.
