I keep my horse at a large yard, great facilities ( walker, be xc course, 3 schools, gallop track) and he's quite happy there. Unfortunately we are both out of action - him recovering from splint fracture, me a broken hip! At the moment I'm paying nearly 600 at my current yard (!) because I had to put him on full livery. We should find out if he is sound again when the vet comes up in a few weeks. I won't be able to ride until next year. Two of my friends mo ed to a smaller yard two miles away, it's 355 for full livery or 275 for 5 day fl, has a small outdoor, all year turnout, hacking apparently is good and the yo seems nice. I really like my current yard - loads of comps on and an amazing xc course. I still want to compete my horse when we are both fit and fully recovered but at my own pace. I worry I will be making a mistake if I left with the amazing facilities we have ( although admittedly I can't use them..and it does get frustrating seeing fellow liveries compete when I can't)-But I wondered if it would be better for me and my horses sake to move somewhere quieter, I can save up and may e invest in transport next spring. At my current yard before I had my accident and looked after him all the time ( with the exception of getting him turned out in the morning) I was paying around 340 Inc hay and bedding. Half price entry to shows.

Has anyone moved from a large yard to a small one with less facilities -and how did you find it??

in a similar situation, but was on diy, have moved to a yard with only 10 liveries from a yard with over 100 liveries, and i am saving aboiut 200 a month alone on livery, horse in question is very much happier so chilled out, on a plus there is less grass which is good as he is a good doer, smallish outdoor school, but big enough to build a course of jumps about 6/7 jumps, is the base for one of the local riding clubs, hacking distance to an amazing beach and about 25 miles of hacking have never been happier, just wish i had more people to hack with, its nice to see my horse so chilled out even though he doesnt have a routine any more, had to be in by 4pm at last yard
