Big Youngster - final hieght??

I have recently bought a 2yr old IDx TB gelding.
He stands at a full 16.3 at the moment (his D.o.B is 1st May)
I wondered what sort of hieght i was looking at for his finishing hieght. The vet said approx 17.1/2 but since i have heard of smaller youngsters getting bigger than that!

have posted this before measure him from fetlock to elbow then turn tape over to measure from elbow to where his withers will be when he has finished growing only a rough guide but not usually too far out
 
I have a Spanish Norman Colt and he measured 15.1 on his first birthday and 16,2 on his second birthday. I reckon I'm looking at a good 17.2 if not a wee bit more. Dad is 16.2, mum is 17h but unfortunately for me I've found out his grand sire was 18.2 (not funny). Help!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
 
Ooo-er Sam, I think you have bought a giant! Good luck with him, I'd love to come and see him some day - he might make Jerry (17.1hh) look small!

ID can grow untill they are 8yrs old one of my ID x was 16.2 at 4 yrs old ,made 17.3h which is how i ended up with him the lady who bought him thought he would stay at the 16.2 height but he kept on growing.

I also have an 18hh ID x TB whos parents are only 17h and 16.3hh you never can tell.

And like Cicildog had spanish horse both parents 16.2 ish he grow to 17.2hh
 
Agree with this. Our 6 year old ID X TB grew 3 inches in six months. He's eight now and I'm not convinced he isn't still slightly bum high.
