Maggie and my sister competed today in two BD Novices. In the first class they got 72.8% and in the second just over 62%. (different judges). The horse went equally well in both tests. Obviously the judges were looking for very different things. What is the biggest difference in scores you have had for either the same test, or for two tests at the same level (where your horse went pretty equally)?

I got 60% and 69% today. Different judges though and I think that can make a difference though my horse was loads better in the 2nd test so I was expecting some sort of increase!

56.36% and 67% for 2 prelims ridden the same day that didn't feel that much different. Different judges where one really likes my horse and the other apparently does not!!

Today got 58.97% for a Novice and 69.57% prelim. Though to be fair the Novice would have been 61.03% had I not lost my way twice

(suffering badly with flu like symptoms so brain not in gear!!) plus our mediums are not really happening which cost us quite dearly.

Same test with three judges (at the regionals) an 8% difference between the top score and the bottom score!!! I appreciate the judges were at different letters and could see different things, but 8% is shocking.

There was a halt to rein back 4 steps movement and R did 5 (without running or resisting, just a mistake) - all three judges saw this and all three wrote "good halt but 5 steps", the marks were 7, 6 and 5. Now that is a mess if there ever was one!

Nope it was minus 2
Pretty demorolising when it was one of my first proper dressage tests (ie not on the lead rein or assisted) for a young girl on a little pony
I think we managed one 6 in the whole test

Thank god for the next judge who gave us 69% with lots of positive comments

Surely a minus mark cannot be "legal"??

How awful!! That is one thing I hate about dressage is judges are really, really mean in their comments. I mean surealy they should encourage and want people to continue competing? I always think no matter how bad the test there must be some encouraging things to say.... I am not saying mark falsely high but some encouragement makes all the difference.

I did no dressage after PC days aged about 13 till last year more than 20 years later!! My first test was a RC judge who gave some nice comments and a probably generous score and it really encouraged me to try more.

47 and 62% - horse didn't go any different in either test - he was always mister consistent!

oh, we had a 8% difference at the BD Winter Champs too. 2 judges, one at C and one at E. C judge had us as the winner on 70%. E judge had us halfway down the class on 62%. Finished 4th on 66% in the end!

A judge cannot give a -2 BUT 2 marks can be taken away for error of course.

Anyway, at the Music Regionals last year one judge gave me 69.8% and the other 60.1% - go figure

i had 10% difference between 2 judges for both my area festival tests one year, 55% and 65% for same test and 52% and 62% for other test! ridiculous, to me low 50's means i need to go home, hide under a rock and change A LOT before going back out again and mid 60's means im doing ok, got the basics of that level ok and just need to fine tune so how the hell can one test be both those?! was mildy peed off.....

I thought this was the case but we were too upset to question the score with the stewards.

To the other extreme I managed 0.1% of a difference yesterday with 2 different judges...... and one test felt fab the other felt
crazy.gif
! apparently it looked the same though

now I would expect that might have been a writers error actually.

for error of course judge would have said '-2' (normally put a star on the movement and mark it in the box below which there isnt on that test
wink.gif
....... I didnt write that one

) and then said the mark. though judge should have checked the sheet and then it should have been picked up on by the scorers.......... also not me

do you know who the judges were out of interest? Pm obv!

The -2 is bizarre! I got a 4 and a 7 for the same movement in the same test yesterday, I guess it shows how different things can look from different angles.

that is truly cr*p!!!! and the comments!!!! its a walk/trot test not flamin' elementary!!

but thankyou for sharing - it's made me feel less

after yesterday's bl**dy judge!!

i agree that you can't get a -2 for a movement, that's an error. you get the mark for the movement, and then -2 for an error of course, although if you were just late doing the transition most judges just mark you down a little, give you a 5 instead of a 6, kind of thing, they don't necessarily apply the -2.
what a horrible judge at a Walk and Trot test, hardly encouraging. yeuk.

Where I compete quite a bit now you regularly get a 10% difference in marks and in many cases you go straight from one test to the next!! The biggest gap was a friend who had a 15% difference between two tests, that day I went from 67% to 55%.

At BD area festival one year I did get the same mark from both judges but the winner had about a 8% difference!!

Weirdest marks I got on the same day was 60% and then 82% (different judges). It was just a local RC thing but the 82% was insane - the judge overmarked everyone that day though, still sounds good getting over 80% on a 4yo in about his 3rd test ever!

65 odd % in one, 39% that's 26% difference!!! In one pony was great for his first test as a dressage pony....in his second he returned to his racing roots and I damn near retired!
