Is it just me or are buckles instead of billets on bridles becoming much more common. I'm trying to find a bridle on ebay & they all seem to have buckles.
Yes I was looking at the Cliff Barnsby Comfort general purpose bridle, which if you wanted the comfort one you had to have the buckles which attach to the bit. So I emailed them to ask if I could have billets instead of buckles but the reply was yes you can have stainless steel buckles aarrrghh! Sorry but I prefer billets for the bit attachment - so much more tidy!
I dont like buckles on bridles at all, i think they look bulky. Ive got an elevator and thats got billets on, and so has my sabre comfort, and my normal sabre, and my sabre weymouth. (i dont have a lot of bridles, really!!)
yes buckles are becoming much more common, I to am probably old fashioned an prefer billets especially on a double bridle, far too much metal if buckles.
The heritage range does give you the option of having billets. You can put together your own choice of bridle parts to get exactly what you want, leather quality is quite good, in fact friend prefers it to her elevator! only place I know of that offers the bridle parts is free spirits saddlery, cant remember their web address - sorry.
I really like Billets for the neatness, but personally think Buckles are stronger. Also like "shaped" buckles, but only if the bridle suits. Thats what puts me off alot of the comfort bridles, buckles everywhere adds to the chunkyness.
I spent hours yesterday cleaning tack. At the moment we have 3 complete bridles plus enough bits of leather to make up 2 other bridles if i could be bothered to put them together. And at present we have 1 horse!
All my bridles have billets, I have on pair of reins with buckles and thats it. One of the said 3 bridles was made to measure and is such lovely. The other two are IV Horse. Cheap but look smart and do their job.
