Another outing for Billy and I this week! This time we were off eventing, but sticking to pre-novice as we havent evented since last September! We were entered into the amateur PN class.
First up was the dressage, which I probably should have ridden through before the event
Im definitely VERY rusty on riding a test and some of the movements were not as accurate as I would have liked!! It was PN 102, which isnt bad to ride but has the give and re-takes in canter over x in the circle. So test was ok, not as good as I would have wanted but a fair test!
Was very surprised to be given 26.3! (73.75%) and to be leading after dressage! Judge was very complimentary and wrote we had a smashing test, well presented and we had great (underlined!!) potential
Very chuffed with that, and I even got an 8 for my riding! Person in 2nd was on 28.3.
Next up was the showjumping, which I really hope I am getting somewhere with. In a lesson 2 weeks ago I discovered I wasnt using my legs on take-off as much as I had thought so I have been trying to rectify this at home. So I am very nervous in showjumping as we dont have the best record!! But incredibly pleased to only have 1 down mega chuffed
He also felt like he was really putting the effort in as well, so very pleased
Next up was the xc which both Bill and I were looking forward to the most!
Course wasnt overly long (5.25) and there wasnt anything that I thought would trouble bill, he is pretty brave and quick xc
If anyone saw him warm up Im sure they thought he was a donkey he warms up lovely and calm and placid, then once we go over to the start box he perks up and gets very, very excited lol.
So flew the first 3 out of our stride as they were just single box type fences, then popped a skinny and trakener also barely altering our stride as Bill had it sorted
Next up was a double of angled brush fences which could be jumped on the turn straight or jumped on the angle, so we decided to just jump them on the angle which bill flew straight over! Then gallop down to a step up and brush fence, then across the field to a birch parallel which Bill decided to stand off and leap over
Pics:
Then galloped down to a ditch and across to a skinny before a water splash, straight through and over an open ditch brush fence. Still galloping away in our rhythm and not altering much as we didnt need to, popped the tyre fence and through the double of pipes on a turn, over a log and into the water where I realised we were a bit quick (Ie. far too far under the time!!) so I slowed us right down and cantered through into the next field and over the last fence through the finish, about 30seconds under
whoops!
I hadnt realised we were that quick as with very little setting up and just jumping out of our rhythm the jumps just fly by! We weren't intentionally fast just used to a faster general xc speed (Novice) and not having to set up really made us quick!!
So very pleased to finish up 2nd overall in a big class, not bad for our first event back! Very pleased with bill, he thoroughly enjoyed himself
Was also great to meet a fellow HHOer, and her lovely horse Harry who also happens to be related to Billy!
She has some pics of the boys together
