there was talk last weekend that the ground for the gallop might be too wet, but i haven't heard anything yet and it is pouring it down here at Dishforth, the flattest place on earth, so lord only knows how hard its raining in the hills!
would you mind letting me know then please. My fingers and toes are crossed. If I was to PM you my mob no would you mind txt'ing me plz cos I'm off internet for chunks of today.
they most definately did!
Ron and I had a good gallop, though the rest of the group i was leading were rather slow given we were 2nd off!! even OH on 17.3 baby only missed one fence (the big half moon (2nd jump)) and that was due to lack of steering!
Little sister and horse who haven't hunted in18 months had a good day too, but went early cos of the weather!
I do understand that there were a few who got a little carried away later on in the day, resulting in a few broken fence rails, but nothing serious. Think it was all put down to the high spirits of the day, so no serious harm done.
I pity the poor chap from the York North whose horse put him in that huge muddy hole after the one fence! - very glad i opted not to jump it despite the protestations of one guy who was encouraging everyone to jump it, down hill, leaning forward!? beats me!
Oh, I saw that fence and opted to give it a miss as my brakes were definately failing by that point :smirk: It was certainly a wet spot to have landed in, poor guy
did you hear Nigel (field master and incoming MFH) shout at everyone to only jump what he was jumping? he then had a stop at the next fence, and OH went up and asked if he meant we also had to stop at the fences he stopped at! fortunately he saw the funny side! I wouldn't mind - but i taught him to jump and schooled his big black mare for him and she doesn't usually stop!
  No, I was right near the back so didn't hear that. Your OH was a bit brave, good job he saw the funny side, eh? Was it just after the rails got broke? I think I remember seeing his horse stop and thought - Oops.
Yes, I think I'd like to if Saturday was anything to go by. This was my first full season hunting and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. Can't wait for next season already.
The first one in the gallop pics is OH on the 17.3 baby he was riding, and then there's one of me and Ron galloping straight towards the camera in the hunting pics!
Oooh I used to go on riding holidays at Bilsdale in the sumer and was good friends with the owners of the place haven't been up for a few years. Would deff expect them all to have done this might take a look at the pics
NOw, there's possibly a bit of a confusion here - you see the family who run bilsdale riding centre are part of the "other half" of what was the Bilsdale Hunt, and have gone on to form the "Bilsdale Farmers" who are an unregistered pack, and hunt in a very slow and old fashioned manner.
The part of the bilsdale that have moved on have maintained their MFHA registration and hunt under a proffessional mastership in a much more modern way (within the bounds of the law of course).
That's the people - they still whip in etc and I belive Sheila is still breeding the odd horse.
We don't run the hunt race any more because it kind of went out of fashion. instead we run things like a hunter trial, a pleasure ride (with a few optional jumps), a hunt breakfast and gallop at the end of the season, a regular "pub of hte month" date (£5 pub dinner!) etc etc etc...
