I have just bought a few syringes of Bimectin to worm my horses at only £5.22 a syringe. It is ivermectin based, has anybody else used it? Is it as effective as other brands?
yup will be absolutely the same as using eqvalan and similar... just cheaper. the developing company keep rights to the active ingredients for several years and then it becomes a free for all
Hi,
There are various different active ingredients in wormers. These were developed in response to wormer resistance.
It is recommended that you change the wormer you use regularly, but the important thing to look for is that the active ingredient is different when you change wormers as some brands will use the same active ingredient, and it is this ingredient that the worms become resistant too.
Changing active ingredient regularly will help reduce resistance to wormer as the worms do not have time to adapt to resist the drug.
Common antihelmintics include ivermectin, bimectin, moxidectin, fenbendazole, oxibendazole, pyrantel, praziquantel etc.
Different drug groups wil be active against different worms:
