My boy has arthritus in his hocks so last year my instructor let me use her bioflow boots for him, really helped. This year getting my own.

When i was at Gatcombe i saw they do a bioflow rug, offcourse not cheap!! but there was such good reviews about them.

What do you think about them? Would you buy one?

My OH's mare suffers with stiff hocks. She (my OH that is) swears by magnets, and has a full compliment of rugs and boots. I have e-mailed a link of this to her, so you should get the full lowdown any time.

There is no scientific evidence to prove that static magnets have any healing properties, so really it comes down to what you think about them imo. I studied static magnetic fields for my dissertation and although there isn't any evidence I still believe that they work and have a Bioflow rug (and some other magnetic boots) for my TB. IMO if you think it will be worth the price then by all means buy it. If it were me (I didn't buy my rug) I would look into the number of and strength of the magnets in the boots and compare it to the rugs if there is little difference then it might not be worth splashing out on the rug. Or even look into other makes of rugs and compare the magnet strengths etc.
I cannot for the life in me remember what I wrote but it was either that the location of the magnets had an effect or that the didn't - i.e. using the rug which has the magnets placed over the shoulders and quarters may have less effect on your horses hocks than the boots - obviously unless I read what I wrote that is no help at all ;) but possibly a little food for thought?

I am Neil Ms OH and I do swear by magnets for my 17 year old NF mare who is just very stiff these days. Last year she had a real problem with stiff hocks and I duly used my bioflow wraps, and a pair of Aerborn ( now Harpley) hock boots which had a good effect. However in the new year with snow and fireworks the old bag became really stiff after running around on the hard ground. I had forgotten about my magnetic rug I bought in the summer just in case! I duly put it on and under the vets advice that was where it stayed for a good couple of months, just coming off for rides. The effect was brilliant! I would not have believed the difference. The Harpley equestrian rugs are as good as Bioflow and for the comfort and improvement of flexibility of my horses movement I would strongly recommend the outlay. There are cheaper ones available but as mentioned in another post I would ask why are they only £50? There must be a reason. Any further help needed please pm. :)

NeilM - Thank you very much. Much Appreciated :)

Jesterfaerie - Thank You very much. Really helped a lot. I think the boots are better for his hocks but apparently the rug is fantastic for stiff horse. Which my boy can be threw his back and neck, so thats what i was looking at the rug.

Follychoppins - Thank you ever so much for your report. Sounds as if magnets have really helped your mare a lot. I will definately go and look into other makes and compare one to another. Thanks Again.

Does anyone have a bioflow or other magnetic rug in a 6ft they no longer require, or know where I can get one? I have a Harpley one already but am looking for a spare for when it is in the wash! Arthritic neck now an issue!
