Well, I suppose it was bound to happen but it has now been confirmed that the outbreak of bird flu on a turkey farm is the H5N1 strain. 2600 turkeys have died and the remaining 159000 will be culled.

Yes it is. Just heard on the news that it has been confirmed as the infectious Asisn strain. I suppose the big question now is where did it come from?

Scary stuff though, given the huge over-reaction by the govt, to foot and mouth.
My neighbour has chickens and has been really worried about the prospect of bird flu arriving in the uk.

Migratory birds are always going to be the main suspects though it is a bit early for that it is possible that a bird has arrived in the UK a bit early. I understand that movement of people and supplies to the farm are being investigated though. To be honest this was bound to happen sooner or later as we know this strain is in the bird population.
