I am very interested in this whole out break thats going on at the minute, I was watching the news this morning and it got me thinking.

What are your views on the following?..........

Is it true that they are transporting the turkeys to kill them as opposed to doing it on the premises were they are? Will this not spread infection if they are being transported?

The general Public dont seem to be to bothered about it at the minute, a lot of people interviewed simply said " the government and authorities say its ok and not to worry , so I wont!!!!!" Do you trust our government etc to make statements like that when surely they dont really know what the outcome will be yet?

Lastly, Im not a huge meat eater anyway, but will this outbreak slow your buying/consumption of poultry and eggs etc or not (or at least make you think before buying them?)

Hello, no they kill them on site, then trasport them in sealed lorries to incinerate them off site.

Very sad - but inevitable.

The 'sealed' lorries are not that well sealed - they are merely covered with tarpaulins lashed down with rope - let's hope that none of the tarpaulins have any holes or splits in them

also the gov. is denying that it will "ever find out the cause" yet Bernard Matthews is the biggest poultry producer in Hungary - the ONLY other EU state that has had bird flu in the last few months - so there is a link between BM(Hungary) and BM(UK)

When the conservatives asked this in Parliament this afternoon the answer was 'fudged' by the gov. (as usual)

The idea of a sparrow with bird flu falling down a ventilation shaft into the turkey shed..............beggars belief

As for keeping poultry under cover - the turkeys were under cover and got bird flu - so why torment and put out of business the 'free range' poultry keepers - unless BM is another 'contributor' to the New Labour coffers ?????

My dear old mum moves in poultry circles and a friend of hers who has a farm near BM, (apparantly) uses the same vet practice or vet as BM and vet confirmed that all their stock is in fact imported from Hungary....

Yes - saw on the news - hardly "sealed" containers. Also must be a concern that there was a delay in reporting the outbreak to DEFRA.

Sounds very likely that it was connected to the outbreak in Hungary.
