Hi,

High excitement in the Red-1 household, after a long time with no sound horse to adventure with, Sidney has been booked in to some learning.

I have booked a clinic with with Birgit Beck-Broichsitter, Licenced Instructor of Philippe Karl's School of Légèreté.

Lucky Sidney, learning posh stuff correctly from the start!

So, I have read the blurb, sounds fantastic, but I wondered if anyone here has had a lesson/ clinic, so I can further anticipate and indulge myself in my happiness.

It is 8 weeks away (it would have to be, as Sidney is just coming back into work and so far has just under 2 weeks under saddle since 6 months turned away), so plenty of time to read up.

Mr Red-1 is staying home to look after Jay Man, and Hector the dog, so I will be in a B and B, or maybe even a couple of nights in the box, on my own.

I am so looking forward to being submerged in learning, I have loved clinics with Mark Rashid and Andrew and Manu McLean in particular. I love the part when something becomes bloomin' obvious, and you wonder how on earth you did not make a connection before!

Are you following PKs UK teacher training course?

I haven't been to a Birgit clinic but have been following the PK basic course now for the last year or so.

The next clinic is at the end of April / beginning of may - might be worth a trip for you to get an idea? From the horses mouth so to speak.

Thank you. I have had a look, and my be able to go for the weekend of 30/1 as long as Mr Red-1 will see to the horses. It would be an 8 hour round trip, so I may have to stay overnight.

I have had a look on Amazon, and see there are many DVDs. Do you recommend those? They seem to have good write-ups.

That's a short journey lol there's quite a few travel from Ireland, Scotland, Cornwall :)

It's best to try and come for a couple of days if you can as you will get more out of it. I learn so much and I think if you are going to the Birgit clinic then it's good to have a bit of prior knowledge and to see where the training is aiming towards.

Some of the riders on the course also ride at the Birgit clinics so might give you chance to meet a couple of them. I doubt you'll be the only one sleeping in your lorry.

I'm a bit jealous TBH as I'd love the chance to go to one of those clinics.

Do you have the books? Twisted truths of modern dressage is brilliant but I prefer the art of riding.

DVDs - classical dressage volumes 1 to 4 are brilliant but 1 & 2 would be enough to start.

High Noon volume 1 is fantastic too.

The other one is a lecture I saw live but haven't seen the DVD - called collection, dreams and reality. The lecture was very informative and excellently delivered, I aim to buy the DVD to refer back to it.

I haven't seen the others.

Have fun :)

Thank you for the book and CD recommendations.

I feel very happy to have this opportunity. OH is not so happy about two visits, as he would be left with 2 horses and dog!

All change in the Red-1 household!

Good news, after almost a year off sick, numerous scans and vet advice, complications and upset...Jay Man was written off for work.

Then, Sidney arrives, and Jay seemed better. I thought it was just adrenaline, but after a few weeks we took hom for a scan, as he really did seem better. The scan shows.... Jay is fixed! Astounded us all I think, as I was even considering a nurectomy so he could have a comfortable retirement.

I had been so keen on getting going again, so booked this course. I felt very lucky, as it is normally booked up.

Sidney is not mine, so he is now going back to the owner, for them to sell. It is a pity as he has been absolutely faultless in his time with us, but Jay Man has been back in work for 4 weeks now, and is full steam ahead, up to 1 hour walking a day, no issue. He is not yet fit for a 3 day clinic though.

So, I no longer need a place on this clinic. I can't get a refund unless my place is filled. Where would I advertise it? Anyone suggest how best to do that?
