Biscuit has hurt himself pretty badly, On Fri he went over on his leg, by fri evening he seemed fine and was blasting it round. Sat morning he wouldn't put weight on it, cue emegency trip to the vets, Biscuit has chipped a bone in his hip bit.

He is happy to put weight on it for most of the time but if he puts it down a cetain way he tucks it up. Unfortunatly the vet has said the chancing of him doing flyball, agility or showing again is very slim :( and that was one of the main reasons we got him. We won't be getting rid him obviously.

Vet has said that he is only allowed to walk on the lead, the unfortunate thing with biscuit is that he wants to trot everywhere, on the vets advice I have turned his normal lead into a slip lead by threading the normal bit through the handle, I'm not happy about this so will be going to buy a proper slip lead tommorow.

Sorry for the winge, and any cheap ideas (thanks to the vet bankrupting me) for keeping a dog entertained will be greatly appreciated

Lots of Kongs, a nice bone from the butcher and lots of brain training to keep him quiet!

Really hope he picks up soon, my old dog broke her front leg when she was a pup and it had to be pinned, but she lived to 14 and still managed to show lightly and do a bit of agility with me, so maybe the vet is just giving you the worst case scenario x

Thanks :) I hope so too :) Its my fault he went over as well as I was teaching him to balance on his back legs and he lost his balance :(

Poor Biscuit, hope he is soon on the mend. Did the vet not advise cage rest? I know it will be tough but if you can stop him running round, even in the house, it will probably increase his chances of a full recovery.

That was his first suggestion but Biscuit stresses out when confined in a cage due to his owner before he went to the shelter. We think he must of been left in it for days on end

Don't feel guilty, it's one of those things.... dog is young, who is to say what the leg will be like in a couple years time, so don't feel too disheartened, vets don't know everything :-)

Heres another to make you feel better......................... A client brought his GSD in to us , owner was in floods, he had only mown over his dogs tail with the lawn mower!!!!!!!!!!

At the beginning of April, Bryn, my Large Munsterlander, broke his leg so badly playing ball with my daughter's boyfriend that he had to be referred to the Cambridge Vet School Hospital (I have posted about this before, so please excuse me repeating myself!). His leg now contains a plate, twelve screws, wires and a bone graft from his shoulder. Three months later, he was allowed normal exercise, and now you wouldn't believe anything was ever wrong with him! I've literally just come back from a dog walk and I still watch him with amazement as he gallops around as fast as ever and leaps huge ditches! He's back gun dog training, and is basically as good as new! I'm sure Biscuit will befine!

When he arrived at Cambridge......

ChristmasFairy - I'm sure Biscuit will be fine - as you can see from the x-rays, Bryn had a really bad break (bone was split lengthways as well as across) and he has made a complete (and expensive!:() recovery!
