I have always ridden in a hanging cheek French link snaffle. My horse has always worked brilliant in this bit, brakes, no pulling, easy steering and control, and a gradual head carriage for a stubborn giraffe neck.

However.. My horse gets very excited whilst out hacking and I have not got any brakes when going through the fields - usually have a controlled steady canter but each time recently I have not been able to stop him for at least a whole minute at the end of a gallop. It gets out of control.

I'd like something with a little more stopping power but not severe. I love this bit but my horse seems to love galloping even more than I do. I just want a tad more control so I can enjoy my canters.

Any suggestions?

Hi SP. Thankyou for your reply and thank you so much for your pm I'll reply to you. He is just looking straight ahead not particularly up or down but if I had to choose it would be up, like he can see something. He has a sensitive mouth I find and it's small, not heavy on the hand very easy but when cantering no matter what I do - position/breaking techniques and just emergency pulling he will not stop just tanks ahead!
