Hi,

I have a Welsh Section D x Hackney.

I went out for a hack today, I was on my push bike while my sharer rode.

He works in a loose ring snaffle sweet iron in the school and we havent had a problem so far but today he took off and well there were no brakes at all.

I want to compete in jumping, cross country and like to go on the odd hack, if he was with another horse he would have been gone.

I dont want to change his bit for schooling just other activities.

What would you suggest? :rolleyes::rolleyes:

Yes, everything has been checked. Teeth and new saddle fitted

My sharer is not the problem at all :D, its my horse playing up and taking the pee

Its a loose ring french link snaffle

I didnt actually see what his head was doing as he galloped off round a corner and once i turned round and got round the corner they had stopped by this point. I would have thought up in the air

In that case difficult to suggest a new bit. I'd say something with a bit more poll pressure (hanging cheek or Kimblewick/Pelham) but the cause needs to be investigated.

Is his feed suitable? Is the amount suitable? Is he getting sufficient turnout?

Possibly using a martingale or drop/flash/grakle noseband might help.

He is turned out 7 days a week from 6-7am-4-6pm. He mainly gets hay, small amount of chaff and pony cubes

It was very windy today and he was on his toes. Think il try a flash and if that doesnt work try another bit

Sounds like mine!!!

We do much in just a snaffle, however, for our own safety we hack out, hunt in either a pelham or kimblewick. I use less pressure in fact and just having the curb there just seems to make him more sensible!
