I need some advice on bits. My mare was backed in a rubber snaffle and then went in a loose ring fulmer snaffle for few years but as work developed she was always backing off the contact and it was hard to get her going in it.

Since then I have put her in a loose ring nathe snaffle (flexible & no joints) and she is so much happier in it, we have a much better contact and flat work is coming along well.

Now the problem is that if I jump her in this she gets strong and pulls me along paying no attention, so have had to revert back to fulmer snaffle and martingale for jumping and hacking - she isn't massively happy in this and I have to be very soft and I only added the martingale as she started throwing her head up on occasion I think due to not liking the bit.

So I need ideas for another bit, she doesn't seem to keen on the nutcracker action so do I go for something double jointed or do I go for poll pressure and keep with no joints? I'm thinking to keep with the Nathe as she only has small mouth and they aren't as thick as rubber of happy mouth.

Any advice welcome!

Also might be worth trying a standard mullen mouth snaffle, as the mouthpiece tends to be quite narrow and because she doesn't seem to like the jointed action? :)

Also, what about a NS or Myler mouth bit??

NS have copper mouth pieces (or the ones iv used have) and horses seem to really like them and accept them nicely.
Mylers have a roller over the joint of the bit (to allow individual side movements of the bit) and they are good as well!

There is a horse bit bank in competition riders too which might be worth an ask! :)
