My daughter feels my mare is unhappy in her bit because she plays with it a lot. I don't really think so. She's a 5 yo OTTB, very oral, likes to mouth and play with everything and I honestly think she just likes to play with it.

She's very soft in it and responsive, there's no head tossing or stiffness. She just mouths it a lot.

She's in a french link eggbutt. I originally had her in a single jointed eggbutt but she was a little fussy in that.

What do you think?

Some movement and mouthing is good, though too much might be her struggling to get comfortable with it. If your mare has a large tongue then you might find the french link (particularly if it is a plate not a lozenge) can give a decent aount of tongue pressure. If this is the case then perhaps try one with a shape to it (like the neue scule and cotswold sport tongue saver ones over here - not sure what you have in the states?). The eggbutt french link is a fab bit though, most go well in it.
