My mare can get very strong out hacking and can be inclined to snatch as well. I can ride her on the buckle end but the trouble comes If she spots something and she will lock onto it and her neck and jaw become like a rod of iron. It then becomes very difficult for me to try and flex her from side to side to try and regain some form of control!
She is generally ridden in a D ring sweet iron jointed snaffle and in the manege and is generally ok but needs alot of working in before she will relax and become soft. She had a kissing spine operation 16 months ago and has always had a bit of a problem with stiffness for obvious reasons. However allthough she is a happier horse she does have her limitations.
Whilst I can appreciate that suppling and schooling are the answer to most evasions, I really feel that I need a different bit for hacking to help combat this ridgidness and snatching. She doesn't always do it but it can be quite scary to suddenly feel out of control of your horse. So any advice greatly appreciated
