I am after a bit of advice really - sorry about the pun!! - my mare is currently ridded in a happy mouth snaffle and constantly chews it and stops to rub her face every five minutes. I have tried her in a stainless one and she is worse! She rides well in the snaffle but it is just a bit annoying as every time she stops I almost come out of my seat!

I have been advised to try a sprenger kk ultra but I am a bit reluctant given the cost.

I am really after any advice to try and stop her from chewing and rubbing.

Her teeth have been checked and are fine.

Sounds like she is irriated by a noseband, not the bit - what have you got her in?

If in a cavesson, try a cheap sweet iron bit (crica £12) they have better mouthing properties than the KK Aurgian salox etc

She is just in a cavesson which is quite loose as I thought that this might be the problem but I even tried riding her without a noseband and that didn't make any difference!

Might try a sweet iron though - much cheaper!!
