Can anyone recommend a bit for a 6 year old TB x who keeps bombing off in the school back to the gate and tries to take off home when out hacking alone?

I’m a bit green myself as been out of riding for a few years, so don’t want something that will ruin his mouth if I’m not totally independent in my hands, but sometimes feel he has no respect at all for the full cheek snaffle he’s in at the mo.

His behaviour is stemming from separation anxiety and napping which I am working through but would like to feel a bit safer in the meantime!

Also open to any other advice on said issues above^, thanks!

It's not a bit issue it's a training issue get a good instructor or send him to a professional to re start him and get him to a point you can ride him safely.

No bit or any sort of gadget is going to help and if you keep trying without the knowledge your in danger of making it worse for someone to undo.

No disrespect to you not everyone has the ability to deal with everything you just need to know when to get some help.

I'm sure people on here can recommend someone if you don't know anybody.

I would suggest getting the help of a good instructor.
I’m obviously doing that as well – not much they can do for me while out hacking in the short term. I don’t have a school at home so the only way of exercising is to hack unfortunately, which is obviously not hugely safe with no control!

What has your instructor suggested up to now?Schooling is key here. Can't you find a quiet area to do a bit in.Hacking out seems a bit dangerous at the moment.

Speak to your instructor and see what they recommend. Without knowing/seeing the horse and seeing how they are reacting its really hard to advise.

Could your instructor come to you and walk out with you out hacking? or ride out themselves on your horse to get a feel and maybe break the cycle or behaviour.

Not what you asked I know but just throwing some idea's your way.
