This time of year, the leaves are changing, colder damper mornings and Blenheim and Burghely have ended - Winter is definitely on its way.

Although not eventing myself this autumn season, I cant help but feeling depressed that its all over - the excitement at the beginning of the year, what might happen and will we be bringing home any prizes? the antisipation has all basically gone now.

There are still some events left like Gatcombe this weekend and Aldon in october but for the big comps thats pretty much it.

Am I alone in feeling this way? or does anyone else feel like this around this time of year?

I suppose with SJing and dressage its all year round, although obviously you have the indoor and outdoor season.

Sorry Im rambling.....

I know what you mean...the summer season seems to have flown by

So many hopes at the beginning of the year, so many blows followed. But it was nice to jump indoors again at the weekend. It's seems a change is as good as a rest sometimes

Not looking forward to lots of schooling in the dark over the winter though....still, I guess I should count myself lucky to even be able to ride in the winter

its horrible isn't it! Need to sell horses as we have too few boxes and its just so depressing, especially as my gap year is over and I need a proper job, with less horses! boo hoo! I have done so few events as the ground is soo tricky and it is so expensive. But I must think on the bright side - they are all sound and happy (touching wood).

I'm with you on this one Vix - Not because of competing but just generally because winter is on it's way...

I know exactly what you mean, this has been our worst season ever with lame/wild horses and for the first time in years few rosettes at the end of it.
On the good side CCj has a new horse in Chocolate (provided he stays sound as he is 14) and will be doing dressage and Sj over the winter. He is having his pelvis checked later today by the McTimoney lady to ensure there are no problems left from the break and long lay off, but he does a mean dressage test and had formerly won £135 BSJA, so good for her to have some fun on!
We will take him steady as he is older and not riding fit, but she had a lesson on him the other night and the trainer said he is a smashing horse...
Monty is working quietly and will be going up to the show jumping trainer for him to assess him later this week. The Matinee youngster is now allowing her to be led round leaning over him and is more accepting, but still humps his back some days. so not quite ready to ride! (wheeeeeee....as CCJ hits the deck if we try I reckon.)
I prefer actual winter when the horses are clipped and look lovely and at least you know what the weather will do (rain/snow wind) there does seem to be a sort of gap between competing doesn't there which is depressing.

poor winston!

Connie goes back this evening, Bob has been gone now 4 wks but I have now sat on the loonie ex SJer - soon to be (hopefully) reinstated SJer lol

At first I was told he was 18 but looking on his passport and BSJA record hes 16 so a few years younger

Again as he hasnt been ridden for well over a year he will continue to be lunged and ridden gentley - and hes taking to it like a duck to water.

He has his back looked at on Friday - so plenty of ACP at the ready and is off to the vets tomorow as he has started to choke on litterally a handful of hay -Im thinking teeth or sore throat - he doesnt have his teeth done because hes such a brat! so at least if he goes to the vet they can investigate and dope him and rasp them off accordingly!

Ahh chocolate sounds a babe and very similar to Sunny

Keep me posted on Montys progress please.

Well, we're in comlete agreement on this year I think. Feeling like nothing particularly eventful happened myself! (well apart from a couple of spectacular falls) Am going to have a proper winter instead, with lots of SJ and hunting, then come out fresh next year

You'll have to do the grand tour of the SW gang.

Well I'm looking forward to getting a new horse, finally admitted Olympic is too big for me, so someone else is riding him for a few shows to make him look good again and then he's for sale.

Not looking forward to trying to buy a new horse though

I don't mind the winter too much - Indoor SJ

I am sad the season is over - I feel like I have only just got started! I am dreading being cold again and will try and have fun and come out fighting next year. One good thing is my bank balance is never clobbered as hard in the winter!

Oooo if you come to Somerset why do we not go for a ride on the Mendips? I have a spare nag who is a dude. Mendips are right in the middle for everyone.
