Bit for horses with deadened nerves needed??

well i have a 4yr old WB who has deadened nerves in his mouth from previous owners

i now have gone back to basics to try n regain control but not working does anyone hav any bit suggestions i have managed to control him in a mullen mouth pelham wid 2 reins but am again losing control teeth, back etc are all gd. he hates jointed bits and has fleshy lips he tends to shorten his neck and bolt. he refuses to go in apelham wid couplings or 1 rein will only go in two reins i am currently juumping 110cm and he has potentila so dont wanna giv up on him any help appreciated..

i'd suggest a myler mullen mouth combination. sounds like a lot of damage and a lot of work for such a young horse, tbh. i'd give him a few months' holiday and see if the problem resolves itself... does happen. sometimes they have a holiday and when you start riding them again it's as if they've been schooling themselves in the meantime, a dramatic improvement!
 
What about a Dr Cook bitless bridle for schooling even if not hacking out. Like others I'd try a combination bit or a Wilkie bit. Good luck
