Am getting so confused with biting, i wondered if i could ask you advice. The mare in question has been in a loose ring french link since i bought her, so 3 yrs plus. This bit is lovely for dressage and flatwork and she works softly in it but for jumping she leans and throws her head around. Her jumping technique is errr.... original... once she's going she jumps beautifully, but I never know if she's going to stop or fire at it, or after the jump take the bit and run with her head in the air. I'm hopefully having a jumping lesson sunday so will introduce a martingale and possibly a new bit, but what bit? The loose ring is usually fine but at camp last week on the last day it rubbed the corners of her mouth raw after she had charged round the arena a few times, instructors think that a waterford would be a good idea, but what cheeks or rings should i go for and would it rub if she managed to lock on to it? I want a bit she will be happy with but won't be able to lean on when she has her mad five minutes... any ideas?
Sorry written a bit of an essay...
