Bit for lunging - same or different to riding or doesn't matter?

Hopefully getting a new bridle fro Santa this year, to replace my boy's flatwork/dressage bridle. But I'm thinking that with both boys to keep exercised these days, time saving is particularly helpful, and currently lunge older boy at least once sometimes twice a week, and once youngster actually turns 4 will start lunging him initially maybe once a fotnight but next winter when he is 4 rising 5 might do weekly (avoiding atm as he's still growing, won't be 4 til July 1st).

Anyway, thinking rather than ebaying old bridle or shoving it in a box somewhere, its still in good condition (only want new one cos want comfort headpiece really!) so might use it as a lunging bridle for both of them....

Longwinded explanation but question I am asking is do you always lunge in the same bit as you ride in? Or don't you think it really matters? I always lunge older boy in Pessoa and will use side reins initially on yougster and progress into the pessoa probably when he is 5. They both go in french links of different types, youngster has full cheeks on his and older boy just gone into hanging cheek lozenge from loose ring lozenge (which as its a KK one I will prob now progress youngster into J's cast off!), so would probably just pick up a cheap lozenge snaffle and that would mean that bridle woulld live with lunging stuff for super quick and easy life

What bit is he in at the moment?
I've always lunged horses either in their normal snaffles or a cavesson. I can't be bothered with changing their bits around, esp as they're mild snaffles ie loose ring with lozenge.

Your plan sounds good. It doesn't matter what you use for lungeing as long as it's something that is qacceptable to the horse.

I have a lunging bridle with a cheeked french linked snaffle and a riding bridle with a hanging cheek french link snaffle. I find it far easier to have a lunging bridle and a riding bridle than to keep chopping and changing and the cheeks help keep my horse on the circle

my mare i lunge in a hanging cheek snaffle which was relegated from her ridden bit when i brought her a neue schele bit. my gelding if he ever gets lunged its cos he is being a sod to ride so its usually in his tack. otherwise i just use a headcollar.

Cool sounds like most people have same theory as me. I figured similar mouthpiece is main thing which it will have even if I put the cheeked one on the shared 'lunging' bridle.
Thanks all

Sorry rudolf_bum I missed your question in my reply

Older boy - just changing to a lozenge NS hanging cheek snaffle from a loose ring NS lozenge

Younger boy - just progressing from french link full cheek loose ring into the loose ring NS lozenge that older boy no longer needs!

So planning to put the full cheek french link onto the lunging bridle for now, its a bit big for both of them so might pick up a cheapy french link somewhere in a 5 or 5.25 as the full cheek one is a 5.5!
