Ive recently purchased a rising 4yo welsh cob. he is as yet unbroken. he has been lunged and long reined. my question is, his previous owner had him in a kk starter bit but these are way out of my price range. Does anyone know of a good alternative? Thanks in advance :-)

I have my 4yo Sec D in a Loose Ring French Link Snaffle (from ebay) and he accepted it really from day 1. All the groundwork paid off and now I've started him under saddle he remains happy with it and very light and responsive.
Just keep checking whats going on in his mouth as mine had his wolf teeth out earlier in the year so had a 3week break and now his tushes are erupting so there maybe days when for other reasons he's a bit 'mouthy'.

We backed ours in a loose ring happy mouth, with a peanut, and she still goes very sweetly in it.
Second Cambrica, with getting mouth checked to prevent any issues that may arise, before they do.

I have a four year old with a narrow jaw and fleshy tongue - I usually ride her bitless but she does go happily in a Jeffries Harmony bit when required :) I think it's a NS Team Up-a-likey and it was £25....
