Planning to do a show this weekend with our large M&M. He goes well in a loose ring Nathe but I'm wondering if we are allowed to use bit guards with it? I know they don't look nice at the best of times!! Only novice level but obviously won't use if a big no no...

I don't really do showing but i assume it isn't unlike dressage and even unaffiliated dressage follows affiliated dressage rules and you cant use bit guards. I am assuming showing classes will follow affiliated showing rules too?

Hope the show goes well! :)

OP, if you are doing local unaff then it won't be a problem as they are not banned - unless in the rules of that particular show. (Very unlikely)
However, as they are frowned upon in the local show ring, you need to expect to be well down the line, if not at the bottom. Bit guards are akin to bright saddle cloths or riding in wellies in local shows.

Thank you all for the top info . I’ve managed to order a D-ring version of the mouthpiece he likes on next day delivery so it should come in time and then I can relax in the knowledge that he will be both comfortable and correct!!!
