OK, I have two questions for all you people out there who are clued up on bits.

Why is it when I look in H&H in the Dressage section that you see a fixed curb with a loose ring bradoon? What does this acheive?

I always thought you used a fixed curb with a fixed bradoon and the same applied to a loose combination.

Also I have a show horse who is very naughty and yanks down all the time and opens his mouth - thus making him evade the bit and is not being placed.

I have tried many diffrent bits but nothing seems to work, I am now thinking of using a crank on him to keep his gob shut BUT someone suggested a twisted bradoon might help with his yanking. What do you all think?

Thanks

Hmm would depend why he is yanking, does it come at a specific time, when you use a specific aid etc?

A drop noseband may be effective.

He only does it in the ring which is why its so difficult to sort out the problem,

At home he is a darling - behaves wonderfully - in the ring he yanks and yanks,

His teeth have been checked and his back and his saddle.

Duh just realised its for a show horse!!

Out of personal curiosity, what classes??

A crank would be best then to keep his mouth shut, not as I said a drop!

Not sure quite what would make the yanking stop, but I'm thinking if you are spending quite a bit of time on the inital go round in the same pace, maybe he is biored, maybe changing the flexion every few strides round the back of the judge might help
